Anniversary

To Margaret and Peter, with love.

Today is our 38th wedding anniversary. Our good friends Margaret and Peter were married on exactly the same day and year as us and I have just finished 2 small paintings; one for them and one for my husband Pete.  Happy anniversary to us!

Happy anniversary Pete, with all my love.

A Busy July

We were at the Deershed Festival at Topcliffe, near Thirsk last weekend. I have never seen so many children making things and having loads of fun in one place before!  It was a really great festival for families and was very well organised.  The Duckett and Jeffreys touring gallery was a huge success and looked fantastic.  I was pleased with the work I produced for the show, working with a square format small enough to fit into a cd case was a challenge.

My work at the Ryedale Open in the Milton Rooms, Malton was well received, which is encouraging.  I have now attended 2 sessions of 4 run by CIDA, aimed at helping artists to become more efficient at running their own businesses.  It has been useful for me as it is a long time since I attended a business course and I am gradually getting my act together and beginning to make plans for earning some money. It is six years since I moved to North Yorkshire and I am finally feeling well enough and able to begin working in earnest again.   Of course, selling some paintings would help!  The next CIDA session is about promoting one's work and business and I am really looking forward to it.

The Herbert Read show at The Gallery, Ryedale Folk Museum was opened a few weeks ago after a lot of really hard work and was a great success, it runs until September.  The works displayed look amazing.  I particularly like the Terry Frost painting, High Yellow, Yorkshire.  It looks wonderful on the end wall with the Barbara Hepworth sculpture, Spring, in the foreground.  I was very excited to meet Patrick Heron's brother and we had an interesting conversation about painting.  It has been a brilliant time at the gallery, with so many important pieces on loan and we hope that it will lead to other shows with loans from major galleries.
